Working at Care Housing, one year in… by Karen Taylor, Business Support Officer
As the newest member of staff, the beginning of June marks my 1-year anniversary with Care Housing Association.
I had already been aware of Care and the work that they do for a number of years, so, when I heard they were advertising the brand-new role of Business Support Officer I didn’t hesitate to apply. Fortunately, my many years of experience in administration and accounting in industry, the Arts and not-for-profit organisations stood me in good stead and the outcome was positive – here I am!
Positive outcomes are what Care is all about, be it for our tenants and their families, our partnership organisations and, not least, our staff team, and this was evident to me right from the start by the supportive way in which Care works, true to their core values. Although my role is office-based I have had the opportunity to visit some of the properties and meet the tenants to see first-hand the rsults of the thought, planning and care that goes in to accommodating our tenants.
Care’s work is also very important to me from a personal perspective; coincidentally, the move to join Care happened just after I had been going through the process of finding accommodation for my son who is in his thirties and has a learning disability. So, I suppose I could say I know what it’s all about ‘from the inside out’. From a parent’s point of view it’s not easy trying to find the ‘ideal’, the right type of accommodation in the right location, that fine balance between independence and support, and I think the way in which Care works to support families in this way is invaluable.
I feel very valued as an employee of Care Housing Association; it has been one of the best moves I have made, and hopefully, I will be working here for a few more years to come.
