Finding my way to Care HA by Jonny Slater, Housing Officer
I was always asked the question ‘what’s your dream job?’. For a long time I was in a dilemma; did I want to attend university or get a full time job. I was pushed by my parents to go to university and get a degree, but made the conscious decision to search for full time employment.
I was offered a space on an apprenticeship programme to train as a housing officer. At that point I had little to no knowledge of the housing sector, but the role sounded intriguing – being responsible for providing accommodation to asylum seekers entering the UK. From that point I instantly knew that the social housing sector was where I wanted to pursue my career. Following the completion of my apprenticeship, I moved on to becoming a Tenancy Sustainment Officer where no two days are alike! I was working with vulnerable homeless adults with an aim to transform lives and promote independent living. I gained much-needed skills and experience in housing and tenancy management, and developed a greater understanding of how we can work coherently to help those in need.
As a new member of the team, it is evident that Care Housing Association is a values-driven organisation that ensures all tenants receive the greatest support. It is clear that Care is committed to delivering high quality housing and support to their tenants. I am looking forward to getting started as a Housing Officer with this amazing close-knit team.
