Many of Care’s properties benefit from our regular gardening service. Properties in the North West have their gardens cared for by our friendly gardener Paul. Paul has looked after the gardens at a lot of our properties for many years and is a familiar face to many of our tenants.
Spring is a busy time of year for Paul, but we managed to catch up with him for a chat to learn a little but more about the man who helps keep Care’s gardens looking lovely.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I’ve always enjoyed gardening, long before I started doing it as a job. It’s good to be able to go to work and do something that I genuinely enjoy doing, not so much so when it’s raining though! I get great satisfaction in keeping gardens tidy for the people I work for.
What is your favourite time of year?
I enjoy all the seasons for different reasons, but I’ve always liked Autumn the most. I love the colours of the trees as the leaves begin to fall. It’s my favourite time of year for going on long walks with my Boxer dogs Freddie and Lola.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I have trained in Martial Arts since I was 12 and am a 4th Dan Black Belt. I also ran my own club for 18 years and taught 2 classes per week up until 2018 when we closed the school. My colleague Ian, who helps me with the gardens, has been a friend for over 30 years since we met when training. It’s also where me and my wife met in 1995.
During the summer months Paul visits properties every two to three weeks, and in the winter months when growth in the gardens slows down, visits are every four to five weeks.
Visits include the following
Lawn Mowing,
Hedge Trimming,
Hedge Cutting
Shrub Pruning
Flower bed / Border tidy and hoeing
Weed control in lawns and borders,
Weed / Moss control on Paths and Driveways.
Next time you see him busy at work why not give him a wave and say hi!
