January saw Care complete on the purchase of a new property in Stockport which will be the new home for three siblings.
The house requires a lot of renovation work to make it just right for the needs of the people who will live there; the garage will be converted into a ground floor bedroom, and the utility will be changed into an en-suite wetroom. The whole of the ground floor will be fully wheelchair accessible for the wheelchair user who will live there. We will also replace the kitchen, the bathroom, provide level access to the front and rear entrances, and redesign the garden.
It is important for us to get tenants involved as much as possible, but this proves difficult with the added risk of Covid-19. A visit was arranged for their mum to bring the siblings to the house the day before anyone else entered to allow them to look around on their own without anyone else inside. Their mum reported afterwards that despite it needing a lot of work, they were very excited to visit and have already started thinking about the different colours they would like to decorate their bedrooms.
The first site meeting was held, following Covid-secure guidelines, to discuss all of the work that is required. We always ask the support provider to attend these meetings for their input, and the tenant’s mum also came along to provide valuable information about what she felt would work well for the three siblings. Care feel it is very important to get as much input as possible from family members, or those who know the tenant best, to enable us to tailor the house to the lifestyle of the people who will live there.
